Motorola MILESTONE Review
December 30, 2009
Youve probably noticed that Motorola has not been doing great in financial terms lately, registered record-breaking losses and has been slowly, but steadily, losing ground on the cell phone market and the major winners that cashed in on the weakness of the former leader turned out to be Samsung and LG. The company decided to cast its lot in with Android, the young operating system that is picking up speed as we speak and gaining popularity incredibly rapidly.
By the time of the current review, Motorola has released two handsets utilizing the open source platform developed by Google and they are known under different names depending on the particular region – the first is the Motorola DEXT called the CLIQ in the US. Today we are reviewing the second and more famous handset of the duo, the Motorola MILESTONE. Its CDMA version, the DROID, has already rolled out in the US through Verizon and caused an incredible stir, an outburst of zealous interest that is best described as furore.” Read more here:
Palm webOS 1.3.5 Released, Full Changelog Now Online
December 30, 2009
“Further to this morning’s news, webOS 1.3.5 is now officially available for Sprint Palm users and the full changelog has been posted on Palm’s support pages (Pixi here, Pre here). No GSM or Bell love yet, so far as your correspondent can discern. Thanks to Palm’s use of a new compression method, it weighs in at a tiny 13mb and now has a new “unpacking” step when installing.
The most interesting fixes? Posted after the break, along with the Pre changelog.
- The ridiculous app storage limit has been killed dead – apps are now stored on the USB drive.
- You can now download multiple aplications simultaneously from the App Catalog, and are not confined to the app listing while you wait for it to download.
- The bizarro Messaging bug – where deleting an entire conversation at once would result in any future conversations with that contact disappearing forever from the main view of messaging like an out-of-phase Starfleet officer /gratuitous Trek reference – has been corrected.” Read more here:
Sony Ericsson U1 (Satio) Review
December 29, 2009
“Design-wise the Satio is perhaps one of Sony Ericssons most simple and elegant phones. Its clean front consists of a large display and only three buttons at the bottom. Two of these are for calls and the third is the menu key, which also doubles as a shortcut to the taskbar when holding it for a few seconds. Theres naturally also a front facing camera for video calls, as well as a light sensor that automatically adjusts the screen backlight. And now for one of the most awesome features its got a blinking status LED, too! If youre an avid fan of Ericsson and have been in the game since the beginning of time, youll most probably love the status LED that blinks in different colours depending on the status of the phone, i.e. when the battery is low (blinking red), youve got unread messages or youve missed a call (blinking green). Itll also let you know when its charging (solid red) and when its fully charged (solid green).” Read this looong review here:
BlackBerry Tour2 9650 Hands On
December 27, 2009
“What could be better than the original BlackBerry Tour? Well, the BlackBerry Tour2 obviously. Weve just got a hold of one and will be putting it through our normal thorough review processes, but in the meantime, here are some first impressions:
- Physical size is nearly, if not identical to the original BlackBerry Tour
- The trackpad works great, just as youd expect
- We guessed the original Tour was slightly underpowered, and we were right. Fortunately the Tour2 seems to use the processor found in the Storm2, and thats a welcome improvement. In the short time weve been using it, there arent many slowdowns that wed normally get on the Tour, and the device feels much more snappy
- The keyboard remains at greatness status
- Wi-Fi works like any other BlackBerry” Read more here:

Nokia Update N82, N95 and N95 8GB firmware to v35
December 25, 2009

“How about that for an early Christmas present? Aimed at the Nokia N95 (which must be drawing its pension by now), Nokia have released a new firmware for the device. We’re off to dust down the older phones (they must be in here somewhere) to find out what delights are in v35.0.001. Be aware that user data is not preserved in a firmware update on the N95 range, so you must back up your data first if you want to keep it. The N82 also gets v35, though this does have User Data Preservation, making the upgrade a little easier.” via allaboutsymbian.com
Google Nexus One Video Walkthrough
December 25, 2009
“As the days go by the steady feed of information about the Google Nexus One continues to flow freely. We’ve seen pictures and specs lists and now a video walkthrough of the handset’s interface. The video gives a decent look at the menus in the phone and also shows it next to a HTC Hero and an iPhone for comparison. The video is a bit blurry and a bit shaky, as is often the case with these leaked videos, so don’t expect HD quality here!” via mobile-review.com
